1. Introduction
As per current Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) guidelines, international students graduating from licensed programs at a private career college in Alberta are not eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).
CCTCMA welcomes applications from all international students. There is no admission limitation on the basis of provincial residence or citizenship.
The following programs are Designated Learning Programs and are eligible to receive foreign nationals on a study permit.
- Acupuncture Diploma Program
- 2200 Hour Massage Therapy Program
2. Admission
CCTCMA accepts applications of Acupuncture Diploma Program and Doctor of TCM Diploma Program from students who meet all of the following criteria:
- A sincere interest in TCM or acupuncture,
- At least eighteen (18) years old,
- Have completed high school education in Alberta or equivalent, with a 60% average or better in Grade 12 English, Grade 12 Math and Grade 12 Science,
- Out of high school for at least two years OR successful completion of one year of post-secondary education verified by transcript,
- For applicants whose first language is not English, proof of a successful result in either the TOFEL 560/220 OR IELTS 5.0 exams are required. See the English Language Proficiency Requirements for more details.
- A successful interview by the college
》Admission Requirement for 2200 Hour Massage Diploma Program
Standard Admission:
Students must meet the following criteria:
- Must be minimal 18 years of age,
- Alberta high school diploma, verified by official transcript, or non-Alberta equivalent,
- Successful interview with school administration, at the discretion of the school,
- Proficiency in speaking and written English, at the discretion of the school. See English Language Proficiency document for details.
Mature Admission Students must meet the following criteria:
- Must be minimal 19 years of age,
- Successful interview with school administration, at the discretion of the school.
- Post-secondary education or other educational experience may be considered for advanced credit at the discretion of the school.
- Proficiency in speaking and written English, at the discretion of the school. See the English Language Proficiency Requirements for more details.
3. Procedure
- The prospective international student submits the application package with a $500.00 application fee.
- Within 14 days, CCTCMA reviews the application package and informs the prospective student by email or phone if any documents are missing.
- Within one month, CCTCMA mails the Letter of Acceptance to the student and the student starts to apply for the Student Visa, medical insurance, as well as relevant travel documents.
- School starts on the first week of September each year.
Note: The application fee is not refundable. CCTCMA recommends that prospective students apply for their Student Visa ASAP.
4. Credential Assessment and Recognition Standard
Applicants from other countries must first complete an education credential assessment and send a copy of the completed assessment along with a copy of there diploma and transcripts to admin@cctcma.com. The education credential assessment by either WES(World Education Services)or ICAS(International Credential Assessment Service)is acceptable.
5.Academic Policies for International Students
》Academic Evaluation Policy
Examinations are an essential tool used to evaluate the accomplishments of both instructors and students. Exams assess the level of a student’s knowledge and understanding, while also assessing the effectiveness of an instructor’s teaching methods. Written and practical exams are used to assess the knowledge of students in most courses at CCTCMA. The weights of written and practical exams will be set up based on each course’s requirements. Attendance, participation in classroom discussions, and practicum performances will also be used as tools to evaluate a student’s academic performance. Click here for more details.

》Academic Appeal Policy
- The basic principles for the Academic Appeal Policy at CCTCMA are as the follows:
- Fairness will be applied to all parties.
- Academic decisions should be made as close as possible to the level of academic expertise.
- A final grade appeal is solely based on the academic merits of a student’s work.
- A student must have one additional opportunity to review a final grade assignment after consulting with an instructor.
- In the spirit of co-operation, students are not permitted representation of legal counsel.

6. Support and Services for International Students
》Intenational Student’s Service on Campus
International Student Services (ISS) is the main source of support for international students and a gathering place for students with cross-cultural interests at CCTCMA. The ISS offers the following services:
Reception and orientation – New international students are welcome to register with the ISS in August and September to receive important information about settling into their new environment such as culture adjustment and adaptation.
The following services are some examples:
- New international student orientations
- Recommendation of accommodation and transportation in Calgary,
- Introduction to the Banking system in Canada for newcomers
- Services available at the CCTCMA,

International Student Advising Office – This is where you can find support for a wide range of issues, such as academic counseling, work while studying, immigration, employment, and adjusting to life in Canada.
Cross-cultural counseling – Our cross-cultural counselor provides culturally sensitive counseling to CCTCMA students on personal issues. Feel free to discuss anything from family problems to depression to self-esteem.
Social and cultural events – The ISS offers students a taste of Canadian and world cultures by hosting cultural and social activities, such as themed dinners, parties, field trips, and tours.

We are committed to offering the following services for international students from the CCTCMA:

》Service on immigration and work while studying
International Student Services (ISS) provides information regarding immigration documents i.e. Study Permits, to international students to study at CCTCMA.

7. Health Support for International Students
All international students at the Calgary College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture (CCTCMA) are eligible for the Alberta Health Care Insurance Program (AHCIP) and we strongly encourage international students to purchase adequate coverage not covered by AHCIP. The college clinic of CCTCMA also offers all our students free acupuncture treatments up to 10 times per year by our interns under supervision.
8. Academic Support for International Students
CCTCMA is committed to maintaining high standards and encouraging your academic success. Academic standing applies to all programs at CCTCMA and relates to the student’s eligibility to register in courses within Acupuncture Diploma Program at CCTCMA.
If you are experiencing academic difficulty, you are encouraged to meet with your academic advisor as soon as possible. The sooner you get assistance, the easier it will be for you to get help.
9. Student Complaint and Dispute Resolution Process
We recommend that the student always try to resolve issues informally. If a formal approach is necessary, CCTCMA provides a fair and reasonable procedure for resolution. Click here for more details.
