On the afternoon of April 18, 2013, the Canadian Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) educational expert, Mr. Huanbin Du was invited to give a lecture about how to become a registered TCM doctor and acupuncturist in Canada at the International School of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine.  The lecture was held in the second lecture hall at YiFu Hall.

Mr. Huanbin Du graduated from Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine major in 1988.  He obtained his Master’s Degree on Musculoskeletal Disorders from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (Australia) in 1999.  He was a Professor of TCM at the Health and Medical Science Department in Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and Victoria International College of Canada.

He has successfully developed and administrated TCM, acupuncture, Tuina massage, and other professional training courses.  He has more than 16 years of experience in teaching TCM acupuncture in English.  Mr. Du’s English version of his TCM acupuncture study guide has been very successful and well received.  He has a thorough understanding of TCM and acupuncture regulations and practice in Canada.  He is the founder and president of the Calgary College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture.  He is also a director of the College & Association of Acupuncturists of Alberta, a member of the Conduct & Competency Committee of CAAA, and the director of the Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Association of Canada.

The lecture was hosted by the Dean of the International School of BUCM, Professor Yanling Fu.  It was designed to provide domestic and international students with information and guidance on career opportunities.  The lecture was presented by Dr. Du in English to a standing room only audience and was well received by the enthusiastic audience.  Dr. Du talked about:

  • Canadian TCM and acupuncture regulations,
  • Canadian TCM education trends,
  • how to prepare for Canadian TCM licensing examinations,
  • how to become registered TCM doctors and acupuncturists in Canada,
  • and how to practice TCM and acupuncture in Canada in detail.

Dr. Du’s humor kept the more than two hour long lecture lively and the audience attentive and involved in the presentation.  After attending the lecture, many audience members expressed their interest in the TCM development situation as well as career opportunities abroad.
